Andrew D. Levine is the author of the Indian noir mysteries Death in the Rain, Silent Auction Murder, and the upcoming novella Bombay Reckless. A CPA by day, he specializes in tax strategy, federal securities arbitration, and IRS Section 1031 real estate exchanges — bringing a sharp analytical eye to the tangled crimes he writes about. His fiction blends moody atmospherics with fast-paced investigations, exploring corruption, justice, and the grey spaces in between, all set against the vibrant, chaotic backdrop of Mumbai.

Kabir Joshi faces his most challenging investigation yet A mysterious death at the Gateway Of India unleashes a cascade Of dark revelations that lead him into the heart of a sinister conspiracy. As clues surface in the unlikeliest places, Kabir and his friend, Mumbai police Detective Inspector Ananya Rao must navigate a maze of deceit, danger, and despair. Ages old intrusions from the Parsee community complicate matters. Will he uncover the truth before it’s too late? “Death in the Rain” is a gripping debut that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
In a city that forgets the powerless, two unlikely allies refuse to look away.
Bombay Reckless is a taut, fast-paced novella that takes readers into the early, uncertain days of journalist Kabir Joshi and rising political force Riya Mehta. Before the assassinations, before the betrayals, they were just two young idealists with too much curiosity and too little caution.
Set against the volatile backdrop of Mumbai’s urban redevelopment wars, this is a story of missing families, buried records, and a corrupt elite that rewrites the truth to suit its needs,
It's a great, fast paced read. It's impossible to know what's coming next. It's Agatha Christie-like in its tightly weave web of mystery. I love Levine's writing style. I like the structure as well, with the titled chapters. It really captures the feel of the classic murder mystery. Now it's on to the prequel to see what came first.
Andrew creates thrilling and believable characters sure to catch your attention from page one till the marvelous finish. He creates the atmosphere of India so you can almost feel the rain. Looking forward to more from Andrew so I can reimmerse myself in Kabir’s mysterious dangerous world Well done Andrew
Beautifully rendered atmosphere of Mumbai. Clever plot. Loved the characters. Hope there will be more with these characters.
If you are a fan of political thrillers and want to take ‘time out’ in order to lose yourself in one, then Bombay Reckless is for you! Fast-passed with great characters you become invested in, it is a real page-turner. More please.
Bought the book after reading his first, Death in the Rain. Bombay Reckless did exactly what I wanted and that was to answer a number of unanswered questions from book 1. Levine’s noir style is snappy and fast, like old time dialogue. Loved the repartee between the characters and the new issue was quite entertaining. I hope he continues the series with the same characters going forward into the future.
Very enjoyable first book from this author. Expect more great books to come!
Very interesting book, I enjoyed reading it very much. You really feel that you are in India. Can’t wait for his next book.
Loved Death in the Rain? Then don’t miss this. I thought I understood Kabir Joshi — smart, driven, a little broken. But Bombay Reckless pulled back the curtain and showed me where it all began. Andrew D. Levine delivers a brilliant prequel that adds depth without giving too much away. You get a glimpse of the roads that tested him, the scars that shaped him, and the moments that changed everything. It’s a quick read — but powerful, like a sudden storm.
A very enjoyable quick read. I was told about this book by my friend and we both really liked it. I have been to India once and the story descriptions of the city were as I remember. The author wrote a previous book, Death in the Rain, which was also good but was missing how the main characters all knew each other. This books brings you that information. I would recommend this book and Death in the Rain. I hope to see a nice long series with these characters. I’d love that.
